This book is inspirational. I like that it is based on real characters and situations that have occurred offering a view of what alternative medicine can achieve. I enjoy how the patients fight for their treatment and rights despite the opposition. Silent Storm has opened my eyes.

Silent Storm Ida Lambert 9780989165204 Books Reviews

This is one of the BEST books I have ever read. This heartfelt gut wrenching story touches you to the core. It gives real insight into the value of alternative medicines and how many people can help themselves without being totally dependent on prescription drugs. The book is so intriguing and well written that I could not put it down. Not only is it educational, soul stirring, and entertaining, but it is easy to read and keeps you on edge with its suspense. I believe this book will become a best seller, and possibly a movie at some point. I commend the author on writing a real masterpiece. Its a reference book that everyone needs to have in their library. Al Washington
This is a book that needed to be written and needs to be read by everyone. Complimentary alternative medicine (CAM) has been systematically attacked and squelched by the FDA, AMA, and pharmacutical lobbies. There are alternatives to traditional western medicine that work and this book reveals the truth.
I really enjoyed reading Silent Storm. It was educational and very thought provoking. Silent Storm immediately captured my interest from beginning to end.

Being a book based on real-life situations made me really enjoy it. It really gave me empathy for the patients. They had gone through so many trials before finding Dr. Burton, a naturopathic physician. He was able to help and give them hope. This was very inspirational to me. Imagine the joy they must have felt, their health being restored so they could have a normal life again.

One could tell Dr. Burton also had great empathy for his patients. He, himself, had faced great challenges during his own illness, therefore, he extended himself to greater lengths in helping his patients.

Silent Storm also let me know what great efforts some would go to to derail one's career, especially if he / she felt threatened by that person. Instead of attempting to advance the improvements of their own methods, it appeared their only interest was to destroy anyone they felt threatened by.

Before reading Silent Storm, I was very afraid of any doctor other than the conventional ones. Now I have been enlightened about the naturopathic physicians. I feel very encouraged about using an alternative doctor in some cases.

Prior to illness, people should read the book. Also people who are sick and have lost hope should read this book. It can give them hope, where there is no hope. There is a lot of knowledge in Silent Storm, and people can really benefit by reading it.
I am not sure how this book was ever published. A quick search of the publisher, SSDIA, revealed that it may only exist as connected to the author of this book, Ida Lambert. I am curious to know if she self published this book or not.

If the author chooses write another book, it would benefit the reader if she did basic proofreading. The annotation of these issues may seem tedious at times but they detract from the credibility of the book and its author. Harold Klassen (Kyle Burton) may have wished that he had read the book before promoting it on his Country Health website. Here are a few samples of blatant typos

Pg. 27 "Sidney entered first, warring his tailored suit." Should be wearing...
Pg. 40 "Slanted eyes gave Renee a look of Dawn's Syndrome." I don't have the medical background that the author (or subject) claim to have, but pretty sure this should be spelled Down syndrome.
Pg. 47 "Jane shared the incident with Jane." Should read Kyle shared the incident with Jane.
Pg. 53 Kyle, Burton, and Dr. Burton are used interchangeably making it difficult to read. Dr. Brody appears to transform into a Dr. Benn and then to Brody and then Ben. Later Jane (Kyle's wife) introduces herself as Joan, Harold Klassen's wife's real name. Also Kyle's attorney is randomly referred to by first and last names Anthony and Rudy. In the epilogue the name Harold is accidentally substituted for Kyle.

There are many more issues with contractions, beginning quotations followed with no end quotations, and vice versa.

The subtitle of the book states Based on Actual Events. This is confusing since the author includes many fictional conversations that she created. These conversations are between the "enemies" of Dr. Kyle Burton (Harold). Here is a sample from pg. 71

"I'm telling you, Ted, if enough mothers get a whiff of this guy, it could force us to close our doors...Think of the embarrassment to Pulmonary. Are you prepared to face that?"
...Later that year, with Ted Kennard's blessings, Joe Jacobson phone the FDA and requested an immediate investigation of Burton and his Natrogenics clinic."

As expected from a proponent of naturopathy, the author describes every encounter with a traditional doctor in agonizing detail noting the incompetence, mistreatment and a critical diagnosis with no hope being offered. The raid on Dr. Burton's office is so terrifying awful that the narrative must be told twice! The account is told in Chapters 1 and 2 and again in 27. From the claims in this book it is clear that Kyle Burton believes he is the victim of a massive conspiracy. This belief agrees with a general consensus among most naturopaths; the feeling that medical doctors and governmental agencies are out to get them, and to discredit naturopathy.

A close examination of several stories about Kyle and his patients do not add up. Kyle himself on page 25 was "bedridden" and "had become unbearably weak". Later in the day..."He grabbed Dixon by his collar, almost lifting him off the floor." and "...Kyle interrupted, slamming Dixon up against the wall."

Later Kyle is diagnosed with advanced stages of prostate cancer, leukemia, a bad heart and given three days to live. As expected (in a documentary about a naturopath) by diet he healed himself through detoxes, cleanses, homeopathic solutions, and in six weeks he was brought back to life. So began Kyle's calling as a naturopath...

Chapter 14 introduces us to an infant named Brad. He lost 10 lbs. in four months! Whoa!!! An infant usually weighs 15 lbs. or less. By the time they are 20 lbs. they are usually referred to as a toddler. The traditional doctors of course were unable to help Brad so Dr. Burton to the rescue in November 1990. Still an infant in June 1991, it was time for his six month checkup.

A disturbing element of this book is Kyle's inconsistent behavior. He speaks highly of "church", its' importance, and feeling restored after one of the services. He is even one of the preachers, taking his turn every month. After being excommunicated he starts his own church. His language throughout the book is disheartening. It shows a lack of personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, whose name he takes in vain repeatedly, and mixes it with other swear words. Never is prayer or the bible mentioned outside of church. Jesus and Christ are only mentioned in a form of swearing. Perhaps this is further insight into the character of Kyle.

The epilogue is confusing as it states that "Hundreds of Burton's patients died during the writing of this novel...Many patients' health declined considerably." Not sure how to react to the link between the writing of this book and the death of patients that can only be numbered in the hundreds. It's really sad that this book had to be written at the cost of so many lives! This book is difficult enough to read as it is.

I presume that the author meant to link the death of "hundreds of patients" to the fact that the evil government had taken away Burton's equipment. This equipment when listed was a "powerful microscope", patient files, and his briefcase which contained his injection solutions. The length of time he was without his microscope was from Feb 2nd to November 20th which is approximately 200 working days. "Hundreds of patients" would imply no less than 200 patients possibly exceeding 300 patients died because of this "high powered microscope" that had been confiscated. Apparently the reflexology, homeopathy, hair analysis, and all of the supplements in his clinic were of no use for hundreds of patients. I suppose since his valium was confiscated it became very difficult to treat the patients.

Another brutal claim is that profits for the clinic are stated as having fallen by 80 percent in one year due to an employee's bad behavior. Of course he was the undercover informant for the FBI. Profits started to climb but then fell by 54% due to the investigation. I suppose it wouldn't be fair to collect from the hundreds of dead patients. These outrageous profit statements and "hundreds of patients" strip any credibility that is left for this book that claims "based on actual events".
This is no ordinary book. It is a shocking, extraordinary account of real events. You will become absorbed and sucked into one event after another as Ida meticulously weaves her way through Silent Storm. In the end you will find it hard to keep silent. This is definitely a 5 star book

What a facinating read! If you have ever thought about alternative medical treatment, beyond that which is limited by the American Medical Association (AMA) or by the Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA), you must read "Silent Storm." It will not only keep you turning page after page, it will give you hope and a wealth of information about the benefits of Naturopathic Treatments. Five stars to the Author.
